Wake Up

This past week, I took my children to the park to play. I looked up and saw my eldest son, Gideon, standing on the playground. He looked huge. I sat there and marveled at how quickly time passed. He was just a baby, and before my eyes he has grown so big. People often warned me that I would wake up one day and my children would be grown. As a young mother, I mentally dismissed the words of wisdom, and here I am 8 years later in disbelief at how fast the time has went.

Time is slipping through our fingers. I know that probably sounds like a depressing fact, but it should be a fact that causes us to act. As we all know, the world is in complete chaos. However, this is not the time to just fold our hands and wait for the world to be "safe" again. It is not a time to be content that we completed our spiritual duty for the week by watching an online sermon. It is not the time to just give up on the local church. It is not the time to just talk about the woes of world and not do anything about it. It is not time to just bow the knee to the demands of organizations that seek to ruin the Biblical definition of marriage and family. Time is of essence! It is time to fall on our knees and petition our heavenly Father for the state of our country. It is the time to pick up the phone and witness to our friends. It is the time to keep our eyes open for needs around every corner. It is time to take a stand when our churches are straying from Biblical teaching in an effort to be politically correct. It is time to lovingly confront sin and people straying from truth. It is time to seek the Lord with all our hearts. It is time to wake up and do something!

I would be remiss to continue to watch Gideon grow without any urgency to teach him the principles of God's Word. Tonight, I held him in my arms, and I discussed the meaning of his name. Gideon means Warrior. James and I encouraged him to be the leader God created him to be. We talked to him about the importance of standing up for what is right. We discussed putting others before himself. We redeemed the few precious minutes with him before bedtime. And, that is what I'm calling the church to do. Use each and every minute for the glory of God. Let's not miss this important hour of the church. Let's not throw up our hands because the world is currently on hold. Let's go upstream. Let's wake up, and go in the strength of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

"Redeeming the time, because the days are evil."

Ephesians 5:16
