It's A Bird; It's A Plane....

We moved into our home about five months ago. It had been virtually abandoned for a few years, so we discovered a few unwanted house guests. James set traps, and we had success in capturing the little critters. However, we couldn't fully identify them.....until yesterday.

James was doing some repairs on our chimney, and he heard some scuffling inside. Out popped a little head. He beat on the siding, and the critter made a leap and literally soared through the air, landing on a tree. James could hardly believe what he saw. He came and got me and the kids. He beat on the chimney again. To my utter surprise, out popped this thing which took a leap and glided one foot from my face. It then soared upward and landed in a tree. It was quite a site. Then, we knew what our unwanted house guests were.....flying squirrels.

Sure, this is a cute, little story for dinner conversation, but I have a much bigger point that I want to make. The amazing artistry of God astounds me. He created flight before the Wright brothers ever dreamed of soaring through the air. His intricate design didn't just happen over millions of years; it was perfectly crafted with no mistakes just like He says in the account of creation in Genesis.

I am seeing more professing believers being swayed to the belief that God's creation was crafted over millions of years. This belief is doing so much damage to Christianity. Young people are seeing doors opened to secular evolution and anti-god science. You see, when one begins to doubt God's in inerrant Word in one area such as creation, then it is so much easier to doubt His Word in another area. This doubt can then lead to the rejection of God and His Holy Word.

"And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." "And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night: and the evening and the morning were the first day." (Genesis 1:5) Here we are given a time frame. Evening and morning would logically denote a 24 hour period. But you see, believers today are trying so hard to be culturally relevant. It is not a trendy idea to totally refute evolution. So, instead of standing ground on a literal 6 day creation, many Christians are paying homage to atheistic scientists. But you see, one can't have it both ways. Either you take God at His Word, or you don't.

As the number of young people leaving their Christian faith continues to rise, I believe it is imperative to stand ground on solid, Biblical teaching. Taking worldly ideas and melding them into Christian doctrine will not attract today's young people; it just causes doubt in a supreme God with unlimited power.

As I watched dumbfounded at the little rodent flying out of my chimney, I was struck with the absolute, amazing mind and creativity of my God. And that was just a little glimpse. As we are reminded in 1 Corinthians 2:9, "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." Oh may we bask in the security of God's limitless power. May we rest in His security in these ever changing times. May we believe and stand firm on His authoritative Word. The God Who made a squirrel to fly is not confined to the limits of mere human understanding.
