"Let's play Hide-N-Seek," I prompted my kids. My suggestion was met with enthusiastic replies. I excitedly found the couch, plopped a blanket over me, and waited to be found. "Awww, I can finally just close my eyes and rest. Please don't find me.PLEASE DON'T FIND ME," were the thoughts circling in my head. After Kid #1 found me, I plopped that blanket over my head and remained in the state of tranquility for another whole round of the game. By the time Kid #2 found me, my body screamed for continued sleep.
If you are raising young children or have already raised your children, I'm sure you can identify with feelings of utter exhaustion. I'll be honest my coffee intake increases with each child we add to our family.
BUT GOD. He alone is "the Rock that is higher than I." (Ps. 61:2) He alone is "my strength." (Ps. 18:1) He physically enables me to daily take care of my children.
I remember a day that Matthew, my middle child, came home from school noticeably distraught. I spent 30 minutes trying to comfort him and understand his emotional distress. I felt inadequate.
BUT GOD. He alone is "rich in mercy." (Eph. 2:4) He enables me to emotionally meet my children's needs.
Today, Gideon, my eldest son, was asking some deep spiritual questions. I felt the weight of my answers. Could I explain in a way he would understand? Would he grasp the importance of the Biblical concepts?
BUT GOD. He alone is "wise in heart and mighty in strength." (Job 9:4) He spiritually enables me to answer my children's questions and train them in God's Word.
I don't know what job God has for you to do today, but I do know He will enable you to do it! Sure, you may need a moment to plop a blanket over your head, or you may have to hit the "redo" button. BUT GOD. He will meet your inadequacies with His grace and empowerment, and the overwhelming tasks of the day will be made possible as you allow Him to lead and guide you.
Psalm 121
"I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore."
